NC State Men's Tennis Makes History with First-Ever ACC Title

Wolfpack Defeats No. 13 Virginia in Final

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's tennis team made history on Sunday, April 23, 2023, by capturing its first-ever ACC Championship with a 4-1 victory over No. 13 Virginia at the Cary Tennis Park.

The Wolfpack won the doubles point by taking two of three matches. Martin Katz and Luca Staeheli defeated No. 55 Bar Botzer and Chris Rodesch 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Robert Knaggs and Olle Wallin clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Henrik Wiersholm and Gianni Ross at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, No. 21 Luca Staeheli gave NC State a 2-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Bar Botzer at No. 2 singles. Bartosz Sawicki extended the Wolfpack's lead to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Chris Rodesch at No. 4 singles.

Virginia's only point came at No. 3 singles, where Henrik Wiersholm defeated Robert Knaggs 6-3, 6-4. However, NC State's Martin Katz sealed the victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Gianni Ross at No. 1 singles.

The victory marks a historic moment for the NC State men's tennis program. It is the first time the Wolfpack has won an ACC Championship in any sport.
